Lawn Seeding in Cincinnati Requires Overseeding

Seeding to thicken your lawn is the best way to deal with bare or thin areas.

Most lawns in the Cincinnati area are primarily made up of Tall Fescue. Tall Fescue is an excellent turf grass variety but it doesn’t naturally self repair. It is a clump grass, which simply means that it grows in a clump and does not tiller or spread like other grass varieties.

If you have bare areas in your lawn — and many lawns in the Cincinnati area do — you will need to manually over-seed to fill those areas in. This service is literally called over-seeding and we provide it to many of our customers.

There are 3 types of seeding (seeding with aeration, slice seeding, and dormant seeding) that we discuss in more detail below.

We provide a free, no-obligation consultation and estimate for all of your lawn seeding or over-seeding needs.

3 Types of Seeding

Seeding with Aeration

Many times seeding is done alongside aeration of your lawn. Aeration does a nice job of preparing the seed bed and improving germination.

We like this process because aeration and seeding/over-seeding work so well together.

Slice Seeding

Slice seeding (also called slit seeding) is done with a special machine that cuts small, shallow slices in your lawn and then drops seeds into the groves that it creates.

This process insures the seed has made optimal contact with the soil for the best chance at germination.

Slice seeding is great for thin lawns or when doing a lawn renovation.

Dormant Seeding

Dormant seed is applied in winter so that it can germinate in the spring.

This process involves making sure the lawn is clear of leaves and debris and simply broadcasting the seed.
